Join us for a lecture by the internationally renowned expert in nuclear medicine, professor Abass Alavi!
Professor Abass Alavi is a distinguished physician and scientist of Iranian origin who has dedicated his entire life to nuclear medicine. At the University of Pennsylvania in the U.S., he became a pioneer in the clinical application of positron emission tomography (PET). He was part of the team that was the first in the world to use 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose to image metabolism.
Abass Alavi was born in Tabriz, Iran, and despite his family's modest circumstances, he became a physician thanks to his outstanding academic achievements. In 1966, he emigrated to the U.S., where he began focusing on imaging techniques, particularly nuclear medicine. His groundbreaking research in PET has significantly influenced the diagnosis of many diseases.
Despite being over 80 years old, he continues to work tirelessly, and his publications rank him among the most cited scientists in the world. He has received numerous prestigious awards and is internationally recognised as a pioneer in his field. Abass Alavi is a multidisciplinary scientist in various areas, including brain, cardiovascular, and musculoskeletal diseases, inflammation, cancer, and many other disorders. He has a clear vision for translating new techniques into practice and ensuring their clinical application.
