From neuroscience to PTSD prevention
About 30% percent of directly exposed people and 10% of the general population may develop PTSD after terrorist attacks. Previously, therapists used debriefing or similar methods which encourage sharing the experience, receiving empathy and encouragement to express emotions. But 5 meta-analyses show this not to be effective at all. We developed an alternative method derived from the way the brain processes traumatic memories, the memory structuring intervention (MSI). The MSI aims to shift the traumatic memory from limbic to frontal cortex processing. Over ten studies have tested the MSI. I will teach the rationale, the method, will demonstrate it and provide its scientific evidence
