Pop-Up Case: Coronavirus
Response
The Wuhan Coronavirus has
spread to tens of thousands of people across several countries, threatening to
become a global pandemic. How should the United States respond to contain the
virus and ease public fears?
Purpose:
To discuss with students
what is currently known about coronavirus, walk through the disease progression
and spread and define and describe what countries and departments of public
health have done in the crisis response to date.
Where:
Thursday, 05 March 2020 from 13:00-15:00 in the main lecture theater at the Institute of Hygiene in Epidemiology on Studnickova.
Scope:
The use of freely and openly
available resources from the World Health Organization, Johns Hopkins
university, the centers for disease control and prevention and state public
health agencies. This non-mandatory and non-compulsory event will be available
for medical students, faculty and the public. This tabletop exercise will also
focus on current screening measures taking place in the United Kingdom at
international airports as it relates to best practices based on evidence and
data.
Specific objectives:
1.
Encourage students to take an active role in emergency and
disaster response as healthcare professionals.
2. Ensure
that medical students and faculty know of open source information of best
practices for coronavirus response.
